Default Removing Engine help!

Hey guys I'm going to be pulling the motor out tomorrow (real last minute lol) and wondering if there's anything I need to know before hand.

I've done a couple swaps, but it was in a Civic and CRX. Is there anything different? Anything special needs to be done? maybe a DIY?

From the looks of it, it's easier pulling the motor from the top and just pop the axles from tranny.

if you've already pulled a motor from a civic and crx, you'll basicly doing the same thing in a Prelude. Unhook all the wiring, axles, motor mounts, and pull it out

Make sure you don't forget about the PSP connector.

A load leveler will make your life much, much easier.

I usually remove the rear engine mount bracket completely. It'll make life easier. Same with the alternator bracket, as it can poke a nice hole in the radiator if you're not careful.

Its a pita if you cant get the car raised to a certain level. Last time i did it was at a shop and hydraulic lift helped a lot.

Wedge a pry bar between the trans and the driveshaft then give it a good whack with a dead blow. It should pop right out.

i have a pry bar like this http://www.directbuildingproducts.co...0bar%20set.jpg but thicker, still wont come off. tried hammering what i could but theres no room. its like a 1-2mm out of the tranny, but doesnt want to go any further. never had this much trouble with axles before lol....

I used similar pry bars. No problems at all. You need to hit the pry bar like you're trying to drive it further into the gap between the driveshaft and the trans, don't hit it like a lever. All that does is deflect the pry bar. I've never had one pop out by hitting it that way.

Don't hit too hard. If you really smack it, you're going to either ding the driveshaft or you're going to break the aluminum lip on the trans (I've seen both happen). That's why I recommend a deadblow and not a mimi-sledge.

You can also make a wood wedge and hammer it in. I find that I usually have to use two prybars and smack them in unison to get the thing out. Also be sure your pressure point is near the center of the axle and not the edge, otherwise you will be canting it sideways as you apply pressure and just work against yourself.

I'd try wedging it right where that red dot is and give it a good whack. If that doesn't work, you could try right in the middle. Just be careful.
